Welcome

to the Outback & Flinders ranges

Incredible adventures lay beyond the borders of Adelaide and the suburbs. Leave the city lights behind, as you explore the majestic landscapes and brilliant night skies of outback South Australia, places where courageous pioneers and explorers of previous centuries bravely strode out into the glorious wilderness, seeking their bounties in mining and pastoral ventures.  Slow down your pace and really experience this wild, remote, lightly inhabited, spectacular countryside where local Indigenous people have lived for millennia; where ragged hills and mountains meet endless plains; where rare and endangered species still survive and where Afghan cameleers plied their trade to the early pioneer communities who later relied on the growing rail network. Every venture into this vast remote outback was met with challenges to overcome, as people balanced their daily needs with the rugged landscape.

Today, you’ll venture into these same challenging landscapes, but with the benefit of our maps, and the knowledge of local information, shared from those who have ventured before you. Set your vehicle to four-wheel drive and see the real outback, off the beaten track! Sure, the sealed Stuart Highway streams through the region as an honourable testament to the first non-indigenous explorer to travel this way, John McDouall Stuart; but there are other trails of exciting discoveries, places that Stuart himself would applaud you for venturing into, in the spirit of great exploring! Relish the spectacular palette of the Flinders Ranges, familiarise yourself with the diverse range of vegetation and landforms along the Oodnadatta Track, surprise yourself with delights hidden around every corner. Meet the locals, sample the pace of outback life and mostly just enjoy the journey, celebrating the differences here.
